Revenue and Customs have announced that they are seeking to crackdown on stamp duty land tax evasion. They are implementing a two pronged attack. Firstly, they are focusing on private sales where buyers and sellers agree to keep a price below a stamp duty threshold while making unspecified payments for 'fixtures and fittings'. Secondly, they are investigating buyers of high value properties who are entering into complex trust arrangements to negate stamp duty. If you become involved in one of these schemes you may face retrospective tax charges. For further advice before you agree to enter into such an arrangement contact one of our Residential Property experts on 01708 784000.
